The study of the chemical makeup and processes that take place inside the bodies of living things is the focus of the significant scientific field known as biochemistry. This branch of study is also broadened to comprehend the biochemical interactions that take place within the human body in relation to their use in the medical industry.

Course Description & Detail

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

Molecular structure and functional organisation of cells, as well as subcellular components;
Biomolecules structure, function, and interrelationships, as well as the effects of deviation from the norm;
The fundamentals and applications of enzymology, as well as the control of enzyme activity;
Nutrition assimilation and digestion, as well as the effects of malnutrition;
Combining the numerous metabolic processes and their regulatory mechanisms;
Hereditary illnesses’ biochemical causes and consequences;
Mechanisms for preserving body fluid balance and pH homeostasis;
The principles of genetic engineering and their use in medicine, as well as the molecular mechanisms of gene expression and control;
Medical applications of molecular ideas of bodily defence;
Environmental health risks have a biochemical basis, as do cancer and carcinogenesis, metabolic principles, and xenobiotic detoxification.
The fundamentals of numerous traditional and specialist laboratory investigations, as well as the instrumentation, analysis, and interpretation of data, are covered. You should also be able to suggest experiments to support theoretical ideas and clinical diagnoses.
