Students are taught to assess and manage conditions like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and mood disorders. The course includes both pharmacological treatments (antidepressants, antipsychotics) and psychotherapeutic approaches such as cognitive-behavioural therapy. Students are trained in recognizing psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation and acute psychosis. Psychiatry emphasizes a compassionate approach, focusing on reducing stigma and advocating for mental health awareness in communities.
