The broad goal of the teaching of undergraduate students in OBG is that he/she should acquire understanding of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology of the reproductive system and gain the ability to optimally manage common conditions affecting it.

Course Description & Details

At the end of the course, the student should be able to

Outline the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the female reproductive system and identify common disorders affecting it.
Detect and manage normal pregnancy, labour, and puerperium, and handle common complications.
Identify leading causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, and understand preventive strategies.
Understand contraceptive principles, including techniques for medical termination of pregnancy, sterilisation, and their associated complications.
Recognize the appropriate use and potential side effects of drugs during pregnancy and across menopausal stages.
Describe national maternal and child health and family welfare programs and their implementation at different healthcare levels.
Diagnose common gynaecological diseases and understand the basic principles of their management.
State indications, techniques, and complications of key surgical procedures such as Caesarean section, laparotomy, hysterectomy, Fothergill’s operation, and vacuum aspiration for MTP.
Examine pregnant women, identify high-risk pregnancies, and make timely referrals.
Conduct a normal delivery, recognize complications during labour or postpartum, and provide essential postnatal care.
