Anaesthesiology is the study and practice of anaesthesia and perioperative care, ensuring patient safety and comfort during surgeries and medical procedures. Students are taught to evaluate patient condition, administer different types of anaesthesia (general, regional, and local), and perioperative monitoring. The course also includes training in managing anaesthesia-related complications and emergencies. Students are encouraged to develop a comprehensive understanding of pain management and the principles behind sedation and anaesthetic drugs. Anaesthesiology teaches students the importance of patient safety and meticulous planning in anaesthesia administration.

Course Description & Details

At the end of the course, the student should be able to

Understand the principles of anaesthesia, including pharmacology, techniques, and monitoring during surgery.
Comprehend the management of different types of anaesthesia, including general, regional, and local anaesthesia.
Develop skills in pre-operative evaluation of patients, including assessing fitness for anaesthesia and identifying potential risks.
Monitor and manage patients during anaesthesia, ensuring safety and recovery through appropriate post-operative care.
Identify and manage anaesthesia-related emergencies, such as allergic reactions, difficult airway, and hemodynamic instability.
